Catherine is the current President of the Ulster Society of Women Artists. She is also a Past Chairperson for the Pastel Society of Ireland.
She started her career in art by obtaining a degree in art and education from Queen’s University, Belfast having studied with T.P. Flanagan. At that time she worked mostly in oils but in more recent years has worked more and more in Pastels.
Catherine is inspired by the countryside around her. She doesn’t look for particular subjects but always has a camera in her hand to capture that moment in time. Catherine says ‘maybe it’s the light on a particular day that makes the colours jump or transforms a view that looks quite ordinary every other day that attracts me. I want the viewer to feel they are walking down that lane or standing on that shore feeling the heat of the sun or hearing the sound of the surf.
Catherine is a member of a few Arts Societies, Ulster Society of Women Artists, Pastel Society of Ireland, Ballymena Vis Art, Pastel Society of America and the Pastel Society of the West Coast of America. She regularly exhibits her work in their Annual Exhibitions.
